In the middle of a date palm oasis, on the edge of the illusive Sahara desert, lies a tastefully converted sand castle; ‘Aitisfoul’. This mesmerising property is surrounded by golden dunes, providing the perfect desert experience. Enjoy a peek into the magical desert life and watch the stars bright up in the night like you have never seen before. The luxurious styling, welcoming hospitality and unique location ensure that your stay at Aitisfoul will be an experience to remember.

THE INS AND OUTS

Kamal and Michelle beautifully restored the old Kasbah, which has been in Kamal’s family for generations, into a charming boutique hotel. There are three different room types; tents, standard rooms and suites. Each room is decked out with a spacious bathroom and a private balcony or terrace. A large pool and comfortable lounge areas provide a welcoming cool-down on the hot desert days. The designs throughout the entire property can be defined as ‘berber minimalistic’, authentic but styled to perfection, the perfect combination of simplicity and comfort.

FOOD & DRINKS

Aitisfoul serves up local delicacies and traditional recipes with a modern twist in their on site restaurant. Mo, the head chef, focuses on seasonal and local produce, which is recognisable in the freshness and tastefulness of the food. An extravagant breakfast is included in the room price, with options galore. Dietary requirements can be catered for.

IN THE AREA

Bordering the largest hot desert in the world, Aitisfoul makes for the perfect place to venture out into the elusive Sahara. Depending on how adventurous you are feeling, you can start your adventure into the sand dunes by 4wd, foot or camel. Overnight stays in bivouacs are a possibility as well, which Kamal, who knows these dunes like the back of his hand, can help you organise. On the way to Tagounite from Zagora, make sure to stop over in Tamgroute. This small dusty village is the birthplace of the green glazed pottery found all over Morocco. The clay from the Draa river and the naturally occurring copper lend these unique pieces their distinct colour.

IT’S TIME TO CARE

In collaboration with local craftsman, traditional techniques and reclaimed materials have been used wherever possible. Aitsfoul helps in promoting local business and provides necessary job opportunities for nearby communities. Please be mindful of the water, you are in a desert after all.

PRACTICALITIES

Prices start from 30 euro for tents and from 70 euros for standard rooms. Breakfast and WiFi are included in the room price. There is free private parking available on site. For more information: https://www.aitisfoul.com/
